Hatem Fariz pleaded guilty to committing more than $16 million in viands stamp fraud after running phony transactions in his store, T & T viandss in the 2700 block of West North Avenue. He was also ordered to pay more than $14 million in restitution. In a separate case on the outside of Florida, Fariz pleaded guilty in June to conspiracy to provide funding to Palestinian Islamic Jihad, a U.S.-designated terrorist organization. Fariz will contribute to 37 months of his Florida determination concurrent to his Chicago determination

Hazel summit detectives are searching for a teenage gunman after a botched robbery left his accomplice dead and a third man fighting for his life in a hospital. Police originate Javosky Holmes, 16, bleeding in a field in the 17300 form of Mahoney Parkway Thursday. Police said Holme and a secondary teen's attempt to rob Brian Katlik at gunpoint at his to one's home in the same block went bad when Katlik shakeed a handgun and returned fire. Holme of 2815 Lexington Drive, Hazel summit was shot once in the abdomen. Katlik was in stable condition Friday at toward the south Suburban Hospital, recovering from gunshot pain s The second robber, who has not been named, is still at large, police said.

FAMILY OF GIRL KILLED AT LINCOLN PARK CROSSING seek by requests



The family of a 4-year-old girl killed according to a hit-and-run driver in May is suing the driver and city for negligence. David and Danit Hirsch filed suit onward behalf of their daughter, Maya, who was killed at Lincoln Park West and Belden Avenue. The suit, filed from attorney Steven Hart, seeks unspecified damages from the driver, Michael Roth and the city, which the suit says failed to strictly maintain an intersection that neighbors drawn out complained about. A spokeswoman said the city had not still seen the lawsuit.

A West Chicago man who wager fires at four suburban churches was sentenc Friday to 180 days in jail, four years' probation and ordered to pay more than $33000 in restitution. Marc Giomi, 25 was sentenc after pleading guilty unless mentally ill to arson and institutional vandalism charges stemming from fires he place at churches in Bartlett and Carol Stream. DuPage shire Judge George Bakalis also ordered Giomi -- who has a history of mental illness -- to meet with psychological counseling. Giomi vandalized and establish fires at the churches between March 2003 and January 2005 prosecutors said.

CHARITY SUSPECTS SABOTAGE

A Muslim charity in Evergreen Park has asked the U Postal Service to investigate what it says is possible sabotage of a mass mailing seeking donations to aid Lebanon. About three weeks ago, the Zakat Foundation sent not at home about 70,000 first-class letters with the phrase "Urgent Appeal for Lebanon" printed in r literal meanings on the envelopes. Last week, the charity got back nearly 11000 verbal expressions stamped "not deliverable as addressed." A sizeable chunk of the replyed letters were destined for East Coast addresses. Duston Barto, spokesman for the Zakat Foundation, said the charity updates its mailing lists regularly and has verified the addresses are legitimate. Barto said the charity has sent an e-mail beg to the Postal Service asking for an investigation, unless has not yet heard back. A spokesperson for the USPS Inspection Service could not be reached Friday.

FRAUDULENT NAVY FUND-RAISING LANDS WOMAN IN PRISON

A Villa Park woman who pos as a U Navy reservist while purportedly collecting coin for a military charity was sentenc Friday to six month in jail and placed in succession two years' probation. After pleading guilty to conspiracy and forgery charges, Anne M Pelligrini, 41 also was ordered by dint of DuPage County Judge George Bakalis to perform 150 hours of community service work for a veterans organization. Pelligrini was wearing a U Navy uniform when she and her fiance were charged last May with soliciting riches for a nonexistent military charity, the Navy/Marines Family Relief Fund-raiser, prosecutors said.

CRIME CONTINUES TO DECREASE

Sexual assaults, aggravated assaults, burglaries and aggravated batteries have declined in Chicago throughout the first seven months of the year, police said Friday. There were 22 fewer homicides reported in Chicago as of Friday compared to the same period last year. Sexual assaults by the and of the end of July were down 66 percent compared to last year, while aggravated batteries decreased from 4.3 percent, aggravated assaults decreased from 4.2 percent and burglaries decreased at 3.5 percent.
