Sne hears rumble prominent lawyer, Democratic fund-raiser and former Ald. Bill Singer is handing through the whole extent of documents in a federal probe of a multimillion-dollar land deal involving Stuart Levine, an indicted businessman who is cooperating with authorities.
To wit: The fed petitioned the documents about the matter from Singer, who helped show Smithfield Properties when it bought a downtown building from the Rosalind Franklin University of Medicine and Science. The place of education has claimed in a civil lawsuit it got shortchanged upon the deal.
The flipside: Singer handed from one side of to the other everything he's got on the deal and is being showed by John Hartman, who specializes in white- collar criminal defense at Singer's law firm, Kirkland & Ellis. Hartman declined to commentary about the feds but secure from attacked his client's actions in the land deal. "To the amplitude anybody is suggesting that Bill has done anything other than act aboveboard and in compliance with the law in that transaction, they're actual wrong," he said.
